InfoPrint XT

Migrate legacy Xerox applications to Advanced Function Presentation (AFP™)

Give legacy Xerox jobs their freedom
With legacy Xerox resourcesdatastreams, you're stuck. With single color highlighting and limited use of the data. Instead, slip out of the handcuffs of LCDS, Metacode and aging Xerox printers. InfoPrint® XT converts Xerox resources (fonts, forms, logos and images) and commands into an open, industry-standard format. Also, you receive support for Fuji Xerox IBM 3200 control codes, monochrome FRMs and the LPI DJDE.

Adopt a proven open standard: AFP
InfoPrint XT helps you migrate efficiently to Advanced Function Presentation™ (AFP™) print architecture, without changing the original Xerox programs. And, with AFP, you can use a single datastream in a multivendor print environment. AFP is used by thousands of companies, including some of the world's largest, so they can use their data any way they want.

Store resources centrally, speed up job completion
After the Xerox resources are converted into their AFP equivalents, they are stored in libraries on a server instead of being stored at each printer. With server-based storage, the resources can be managed centrally for an entire fleet of printers, saving time and accelerating job completion.

Manage printers, queues and jobs from a single interface
InfoPrint XT plays well by itself or with others. InfoPrint Manager enables centralized control of printers, queues and jobs located anywhere on a network. RICOH ProcessDirector workflow software automates processes so you can eliminate manual touch points. Manage one or both from a single GUI. And, you can keep track of output costs because accounting information is recorded for every job.

Enjoy the rewards of using an open datastream
Consider how much time your operators spend setting up and managing Xerox print jobs. They'll spend a lot less time with InfoPrint XT because it's easy to manage resources, and AFP supports both continuous feed and cutsheet printers. Even better, AFP includes page-level error recovery when you use Intelligent Printer Data Stream™ (IPDS™) printers. No need to spend hours tracking down and fixing print and finishing errors.

Limit yourself to one color? Not anymore.
With InfoPrint XT, color facilities aren't tied to the legacy hardware limitation of one color toner at a time. You can change the legacy highlight color or print full color, choosing predefined custom colors that come with InfoPrint XT or custom colors that you create.

Install. Fine tune. You're good to go.
InfoPrint XT installs easily in your environment. But, as you know, proprietary formats sometimes need a little finessing to reveal their secrets. Ricoh software experts are available to help you fine tune the solution to meet your specific requirements.

New! FRM/overlay sampling
A new pdxtloadres function, -f sample, allows you to generate printable/viewable samples of Advanced Function Presentation™ (AFP™) overlays that InfoPrint XT creates from Xerox FRM resources. With this capability, you can do FRM/overlay proofing, and know that quality assurance is easy, in environments in which resources are changing rapidly.

New! User control of warning message return codes
A new xwarnrc parameter allows you to control the return code that InfoPrint XT generates when it issues warning messages (numbered 5019-nnn W). This prevents return codes caused by non-critical transform warning situations from stopping RICOH ProcessDirector or InfoPrint Manager jobs.

New! Ability to interpret numeric media types as media names
When processing the xmediatypes parameter, InfoPrint XT interprets numeric media types enclosed in braces, { }, as media type names, rather than as component IDs. This provides additional flexibility when you want to match original Xerox tray pull information with media types associated with a variety of target printers.

New! Ability to improve software keys performance and usability
These enhancements improve the performance of software keys that are processing during execution of InfoPrint XT commands, and they improve usability for InfoPrint XT license key operations. A new command, pdxtlicense, displays the status of the InfoPrint XT license key files in your installation.

If installation media is not available, InfoPrint XT installs its license keys installer utility, for your ease of use. When InfoPrint XT detects that the system fingerprint no longer matches the license key, it continues to function during a 7-day grace period and issues a warning message.

New! RFEED support
InfoPrint XT supports the RFEED logical processor in the pdxtpdl, pdxtloadres and pdxtx2afp commands. As a result, you have greater flexibility when you want to convert and process customer-defined Xerox logical processors.

New! ABNORMAL support
When compiling JSLs, pdxtpdl ignores the ABNORMAL command, rather than issuing an error message. The work moves ahead, and you won't need to spend time troubleshooting.

New! Ability to recognize additional encrypted fonts
This enhancement improves the ability of InfoPrint XT to automatically detect and convert encrypted Xerox FNT resources. You can reduce or eliminate the manual effort that would otherwise be required to process certain encrypted FNTs.

New! Ability to improve i-fix delivery methodology
This feature provides a script for installing large i-fixes containing many affected parts. It enables rapid delivery because it's a standardized installation method.

New! Ability to write pdxtcolor samples to the resource samples directory
Beginning with InfoPrint XT v3.1, the pdxtcolor command stores the color samples it generates in the new resource samples directory, instead of the metrics directory. This feature consolidates all samples that InfoPrint XT generates into a single, standardized location that you can access easily.

Resource conversion and management
The resource conversion program converts and manages the following types of resources:

  • Converts printable resources, such as FNTs, FRMs, IMGs and LGOs, to AFP fonts, overlays and page segments
  • Produces samples of AFP overlays converted from Xerox FRMs
  • Reformats print environment control resources, such as JDLs, CMEs, PDEs, STKs, etc., for use in datastream conversions
  • Reformats source format files, such as JSLs, FSLs, ISLs and CMDs to readable text files
  • Supports resource groups to manage Xerox resources in sets

Datastream conversion
The datastream converter performs or enables the following:

  • Reads LCDS or Metacode input datastream
  • Accesses converted Xerox resources
  • Applies DJDEs and Logical Processors to datastream
  • Writes fully composed AFP output
  • Writes optional DJDE report
  • Provides job accounting information written by InfoPrint Manager or RICOH ProcessDirector

JSL metrics compiler
The JSL metrics compiler lets you modify existing JSL source files and process them to extract resource metrics that will change formatting within your Xerox applications. This eliminates the need to keep at least one Xerox LPS printer available in case resources change, which would require a PDL compiler resident on a Xerox printer.

InfoPrint XT download script
This special script is used when you print jobs from PSF for z/OS® using the AFP Download feature of PSF. It allows you to easily download and print mainframe Xerox jobs using InfoPrint Manager or RICOH ProcessorDirector.

Media handling for cutsheet printers
An xmediatypes parameter associates AFP media types or component IDs with Xerox tray numbers. An xbinerror parameter lets you choose what action XT should take if media selection errors occur.

Automated cluster database processing
The pdxtcluster command simplifies operation on bin selection database file clustr.lib from a Xerox printer, and it facilitates migrations from more recent Xerox printers that do not use clustr.lib.

Highlight color processing
The pdxtcolor command allows you to enhance Xerox highlight color applications for printing on full-color AFP cutsheet or continuous feed printers. Since the InfoPrint XT color facilities are not tied to a hardware limitation of one color toner at a time, you can use multiple solid colors and their associated shades on a page or in a document. You can even create your own custom colors. InfoPrint XT comes with collections of predefined custom colors that can be used immediately.
